First Time Buyer
It was the first time my Mom allowed me to purchase a gift for my Dad without my mom's supervision. I was seven and very excited about the prospect.
As I searched for a gift I thought underwear my be a good idea since my Dad made a comment about needing some. So, I ventured to the men's department and proceeded to buy the most unique striped bikini underwear. Wow, what a gift, I thought, I was very proud.
Oh, the face on my Dad as he opened it, my Dad doesn't wear bikini underwear and it seemed like he was going to wear it because I bought them. Well it turned out, luckily for him, the underwear I bought was the wrong size and he gladly returned it and selected something more his style.
We laugh about that gift almost every Father's Day.

Quick get Something
Sometimes you get gifts that just bring a smile because they are out of the goodness of our hearts. 2 years ago, my daughter overheard me mention a need for some software for the computer.
Father's Day was only a day or two away so she began searching or should I say collecting software to give to me as a gift. By the time I received my Father's Day present on Sunday morning my little girl had managed to find almost 30 discs. None of which contained the software that I was looking for, but it did contain many discs - I couldn't help but laugh. The must have been 5 free AOL discs alone. It was so touching and yet very funny, because I already owned all the software. Looking back it really was a great Father's Day gift.

They Wiggle and Live In Dirt
When I was little, my sister and I gave my Dad worms for Father's Day. Nightcrawlers to be exact, those big worms that are great for fishing.
Oh, it was the perfect gift, one that we had to hunt for the night before Father's Day and store safely for the big surprise. One that needed a flashlight, the ability to dig in the dirt and turn over big rocks - quite an undertaking but we found the worms and put them in a coffee can.
The next morning we proudly brought the can of worms into the house and somehow spilled them all over the rug. Mom wasn't thrilled, Dad helped us clean it up and thought it was quite a good gift.
Looking back, I don't think it's one I'd recommend or give again.

Creating a Masterpiece
Being an Art Teacher you always encourage your kids to create things. So, one year my son created some art.
From what I could tell, he hammered together a few pieces of wood and thoroughly painted it a variety of colors. My son gave the gift to me and I opened it and had no idea what it was.
I told him how neat it was and threw out a few ideas what I thought it might be. I was wrong and finally ask him what it was and he said "I don't know, it's art just like you make." Oh, it was classic, I still have it and I display his art in the house.
